Happy New Year!

It's a beautiful, but chilly start to 2010 here in London. Let's hope that this is a sign of good things to come. I think I'll go for a walk later (after I bundle up warm of course) and enjoy the good weather while it lasts. Undoubtedly, many people have awakened with a hangover this morning, but I am clear headed and I am feeling the positive effects of the sunshine.

It's time to take over the reigns and steer my life in the right direction.

I'm looking forward to watching Doctor Who - The End of Time, Part Two, later today. This is the last story for David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor before he is regenerated into his eleventh incarnation, who will be played by Matt Smith.  It is also the last story written by Russell T Davies, who brought Doctor Who back to British television in 2005. Davies has written, or co-written, no less than ten consecutive episodes. He will be succeeded by Steven Moffat.

The End of Time seems to have had mixed reviews from viewers. Some people felt that the narrative was disjointed, the music was overly intrusive and the Master's new powers were laughable, as was his meat fetish. Others thought it was brilliant. Personally, I thought it was brilliantly mad and I was left wanting more after the first part.

I appreciate Davies' sense of humour, and he was definitely having fun when he wrote this one - he erased humanity by the end of the first episode and he did it in such a comic and family friendly way. I'm sure he must have had a good chuckle after coming up with that one and was definitely making a statement with this line, said by the Master: I am the funniest thing in the whole wide world!

"And so it came to pass, on Christmas day, that the human race did cease to exist... but even then, the Master had no concept of his greater role in events, for this was far more than humanity's end. This day was the day upon which the whole of creation would change forever. This was the day, the Time Lords returned... For Gallifrey, for victory, for THE END OF TIME ITSELF!"  ―The Narrator

  1. Happy New Year!

I didn't much like The End of Time. It was just too silly for me and lacking in a decent story. I like John Simm normally but not as The Master - he is too camp and just wildly overacts. Give me the sinister gentlemanly menace of Roger Delgado or Anthony Ainley anyday. Still, the regeneration was nicely handled and I really, really like the look of Matt Smith and the teaser trailer for the new series this year. Nicely dark and creepy looking.
